Leah & Chris, Mount Washington Hotel

I just had to post a few of yesterdays photos from the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods New Hampshire. It was just such a spectacular wedding and an exciting shoot. The Mount Washington Resort makes it so easy to make beautiful images. Not only is the scenery unmatched, but the service and organization of the hotel is like no other.

Don’t miss the last shot in this post. This is an incredibly lucky shot. I was just trying to get a night shot of the hotel on my way out and low and behold a bolt of lightning struck. Photographing lightning is not an easy task, so I am very excited to share this one!!

Adele & Cristian, Gardiner Maine

When Adele first hired us to shoot her wedding she showed me some pictures of her family’s estate in Gardiner Maine where the wedding would be held.  It looked incredible and yet when I arrived on Sat. it was beyond my wildest expectations.  The estate is a fortress and is appropriately decorated in circa 1920’s (I’m guessing) antiques.

The wedding itself was so much fun!  By far the most kid-friendly wedding of my career.  If anyone is planning a kid-friendly wedding take some of these ideas!  There was a kid section in the church.  They had a puppet (Grandpa) who spoke to the children as part of the ceremony.  They hired a slew of babysitters to watch the kids during the cocktail hour.  Then a kid table with crayons and things during dinner.  After dinner all of the children we’re invited to dress up and they did a costume parade during the first dance!

You’ll also noticed that the Bride and Groom changed into comfy clothes during the reception.  It was very hot and they were uncomfortable.  Good for them for being such independent thinkers!

Here is their wedding story, wonderfully complimented by our second shooter Andree Kehn who is an awesome Maine Wedding Photographer. It’s amazing how much a  wedding is complimented by such a talented second photographer.

I hope to hear what you think in the comments section!

Dorothy’s Maternity Photos

Dorothy and her husband came by the studio on Friday morning for a little maternity session. An hour and a half later they left excited and exhausted. The images look so beautiful I’m very happy we spent that much time together. I just can’t wait to see Dorothy’s newborn!! Here are two of my favorites.

So the deadline for the 2nd Quarterly Wedding Photojournalist Association contest is coming up. I try to enter these contests, but I’m really not very good at picking out winning photos. I know that you are all better then I at editing my work. I’m also terrible at picking out the appropriate category. Silly I know, but I often find 2 or 3 categories that I think apply. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Here are a few of my recent favorites. Please email me your choice or leave it in the comments section.

Your harshest critique is welcome! Thanks for playing.

Finn’s First Year

Finn just turned 1 year old and we did his final session in his Baby’s First Year package.  I’m really going to miss photographing this baby.  It’s funny to even call him a baby anymore, he’s really all grown up!  It’s just amazing to watch him grow from one session to the next.  This makes me so excited to watch my own do the same later this year (and for the rest of my life).  Here is Finn’s first year!

Solarfest, Forget-Me-Not Farm, Rutland, Vermont

We took the weekend off from weddings this week and headed to the Western Vermont boarder for Solarfest at a premiere eco-wedding destination, Forget-Me-Not Farms. It was one of the most inspirational and beautiful festivals I have ever been to.

The whole festival is run off of solar power and includes, music, food, workshops on everything sustainable, every eco-vendor you can imagine and tons of kids activities. Solarfest is not your typical hippie fest. It is progressive, but I found it even a bit conservative at times and very, very family-friendly. Bryan and I take note of anything family-friendly these days.

I went to two incredible workshops, one informative and a few way too techie for my taste. I saw a wood-powered SUV, a solar-powered school bus, a solar-powered car that you can build yourself, an awesome clothesline, very cool composting toilets and found out about a program in NH to give you money back on solar panels. All very cool stuff. I could go on and on and will if anyone wants to hear more. I just wish that they had already set the dates for next year so I could mark out that weekend on my calendar. I do hope to go to this every year!

Here are some quick pix, taken with Bryan’s point and shoot. I didn’t bring the good equipment camping.

Lauren & Adam’s Engagement Pics in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire

Lauren and Adam decided to have some engagements done while they were on vacation in Wolfeboro, NH. It was super fun to shoot in a town like Wolfeboro. Not only did we have Lake Winnipesaukee at our disposal, but the town itself is adorable.  All of the little shops and nooks and crannies made finding locations a snap.  We also borrowed Brewster Academy’s campus for a couple of shots.  Love to hear what you all think!

The Spottswood’s Family Portraits, New London New Hampshire

I love it when families with adult children come in for a family portrait.  And the Spottswood family were just so much fun.  We spent 2 hours on a very hot Friday going all around New London to get some photos for grandma.  We used the backdrop of Mt. Kearsarge, Little Lake Sunapee and Kidder Brook. It was a wonderful time!  And then they were off to Acadia for a family vacation.  Wish I could have joined them for that.

Jen & Ryan Foxstand Estate, Springfield New Hampshire

Jen & Ryan’s wedding was an absolute blast.  What a fun group of people!!  This was my first time over at the Foxstand Estate in Springfield, NH which must be the closest wedding venue to my house (so that was wonderful too!).  The rain and wind didn’t water down the fun to be had and certainly beat the high humidity the weathermen were calling for.

Below is a storyboard album design of Jen & Ryan’s wedding.  You have to check out the bouquet toss and garter events.  An absolutely unique sequence of events.  All of the wedding photos will be posted here within a few days!  I have set up a place where guests can pre-register to be notified when the event goes live.  Wonderful wedding!  Congrat’s Jen & Ryan!!
